Phi Phi Islands or James Bond Island – Which Tour Is Better?
This is one of the most common questions we receive, and the honest answer is: it depends on what you’re looking for.If your priority is swimming, snorkeling, white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear turquoise water, we would generally recommend the Phi Phi Islands Early Bird Tour. Maya Bay, Bamboo Island, Pileh Lagoon, and the snorkeling stops offer some of the most beautiful tropical scenery in Thailand. If you are more interested in dramatic limestone landscapes, sea caves, lagoons, canoeing, and sightseeing, then James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay may be the better choice. The scenery is spectacular and very different from Phi Phi, with towering karst formations rising directly from the sea.For first-time visitors to Phuket, Phi Phi Islands is usually the tour we recommend most often because it offers the classic tropical island experience that many travelers imagine when visiting Thailand. If you have enough time during your holiday, we personally recommend doing both tours, as they are completely different experiences and complement each other very well.
What makes this tour different from regular Phi Phi tours?
The biggest difference is the early departure. While many speedboat tours arrive at Maya Bay and the Phi Phi Islands after hundreds of other visitors, our Early Bird Tour leaves before most operators. This allows you to enjoy the highlights in a much more relaxed atmosphere and often with significantly fewer crowds. We also operate with a comfortable number of guests on board. While the boat is licensed for more passengers, we usually limit the group to around 24–30 guests, providing more space and a better overall experience compared to many large group tours. In addition, this tour is operated by one of Phuket’s most respected premium tour companies, known for excellent service, safety standards, and professional guides.
Which months are the best time to visit the Phi Phi Islands?
The best conditions are usually between November and April, although tours operate throughout most of the year, depending sea conditions. In the rainy season from May till October we monitor the weather conditions daily to offer our guests the safest and most enjoyable experience. There is always a possibility that we have to postpone the tour. Due to our flexible cancellation policies, we always look for the best options for all our guests.
Our Honest Opinion
If you only have time for one island tour during your holiday in Phuket or Khao Lak, the Phi Phi Islands are difficult to beat. The scenery is simply spectacular, with turquoise lagoons, dramatic limestone cliffs, white sandy beaches and some of the most famous viewpoints in Thailand. That said, Phi Phi is also one of Thailand’s most popular destinations. During the high season, standard tours can become very crowded. This is exactly why we recommend the Early Bird Tour. Leaving before most other boats gives you a much better experience at Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and the snorkeling spots. For first-time visitors to Thailand, this is one of the tours we recommend most often. The combination of stunning scenery, snorkeling, beaches and iconic locations makes it a fantastic day trip for couples, families and groups of friends alike. If you prefer untouched nature and fewer visitors, we would personally recommend the Similan Islands. However, if you want to see Thailand’s most famous islands and experience the highlights of the Andaman Sea, the Phi Phi Islands Early Bird Tour is an excellent choice.
